Microsoft Remote Desktop

Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) is a protocol that allows users to connect to a computer running Microsoft Terminal Services. The clients are widely available, and the service is available with Windows Server 2003, Windows XP Professional, Windows Media Center, Windows XP Tablet PC, Windows Vista Ultimate, Enterprise and Business editions.

For two computers to communicate via RDP across the internet, they must also be connected via a virtual private network (VPN). This tutorial shows how to configure Yoics to serve as an easy access VPN for RDP.

To start, configure your computer for RDP access. Instructions are available at microsoft.com

Once that's done, just use Yoics NOW to configure the computer to be a Yoics device

  1. Give the computer a Yoics name
  2. Select the correct service, in this case RDP
  3. Click ADD to add to the NOW list
  4. Once you've verified everything, click OK to register the device with Yoics

The device will now be available in your device list, or the device list of others who you have given access to.

Double-clicking on the device, will bring up the login prompt. Just enter the appropriate credentials and you'll be remotely logged in to the computer
